Watkins Mill High School

Season outlook: Watkins Mill returns seven of nine starters and should be one of the top teams in the division this spring with its depth and experience. With their junior-laden roster and at least a year of experience at almost every position, the Wolverines should be one of the most complete teams in the county.

Junior pitcher Kristen Hand returns as the team's top hurler and will likely share time with freshman Rachel Jacobs, one of four freshmen on the team. Junior second baseman Andrea Hernandez, junior first baseman Tori Borowski and sophomore shortstop Gabby Reckendorf all return, giving Watkins Mill strength throughout its infield.

Senior catcher Rachel Lovejoy returns along with junior left fielder Kendra Bolden and sophomore right fielder Kristin Poh. Sophomore outfielder Stephanie Wildermuth moves up from the JV squad, while freshman Jenni Roach is expected to start at third base. Freshman second baseman Kelly Leahy and freshman designated hitter Michelle Fields join the team and should contribute.

"We've got a very solid team this year and we've got some great pitching," said Wolverines first-year coach Becky McGaffin, who spent the past two seasons as Springbrook's JV coach. "I think we'll be able to compete with everyone we face and we should be as good as we were last year."
